Collaboration

What a week this has been! Lots of assignments due and my group has been a joy to work with thus far! The major concern throughout the group is time management because we all have full lives. I really liked how our charter came together and outlined our group values along with how we are going to manage difficulties. We have agreed that we will collaborate throughout this process, define roles appropriately, be accountable, reach our goals, pick up the slack where needed - hence our slogan "Life Happens".

It's nice to feel as though you have a net. I am grateful to be working with the BIGs for the first Unit.

  1. Hi Dorinda,

I have been thinking about your post and what collaboration really means. You mention challenges your team anticipates, in addition to sharing some initial positive responses you have had to your team so far.

I wanted to explore the idea of collaboration a little more. What do you think the value of collaboration is in learning? How does one effectively collaborate? How does technology impact how we collaborate?

Rosen defines collaboration as working together as a group to create and define value while sharing a space (either physical or virtual) (2007). Do you agree with this definition?

Rosen also emphasizes how technology can be used to bring teams together that are not co-located and can facilitate effective communication (2007). Do you think your team will be able to effectively collaborate virtually using technology as a mediator or do you foresee challenges to the process?

As a side note, I thought I would share the following url which provides links to 10 TED talks about teams and collaboration:

  3. Hi Dorinda,

My experiences working with my team parallel yours. The process of defining team roles provide the structure that allows each team member to work effectively, share ideas and understanding. This is important when, we as students, are juggling our busy day jobs, family and educational lives. The collaborative approach is something most of use daily but there is always something more we can learn to make us more effective.

    Cheers,

    Greg
